Costa Mesa – Council will decide to place medical marijuana ordinances on ballot tonight

The Costa Mesa City Council is expected to vote tonight on whether to place two measures that would allow medical marijuana dispensaries in the city on the November ballot.

If approved, voters will decide on two community-backed initiatives – one that allows eights dispensaries, and another that allows four.

The Legislature passed three bills last year that would regulate dispensaries, giving various agencies the ability to track licensing and oversee growing, and track how edible products are produced and sold.

The bill is expected to be in effect next year.

Last month, the Council voted 5-0 to come up with a ballot measure that allows the manufacturing of marijuana and restricted locations of proposed dispensaries, above South Coast Plaza and west of Harbor Boulevard.
