US govt-funded agency admits marijuana can kill cancer cells The National Institute on Drug Abuse, a US federal government research institute whose mission includes “bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction,” has officially admitted that marijuana extracts can kill cancer cells. The institute has revised a page on its website entitled “DrugFacts: Is Marijuana Medicine?” citing a recent study conducted by a group of scientists at St. George’s University, London.

The House just voted to protect medical marijuana patients from federal interference

 The US House of Representatives late Thursday passed a measure that would prohibit the federal government from interfering with states’ medical marijuana laws. The bill is the first time in history that any chamber of Congress has acted to protect medical marijuana businesses and users. It also got bipartisan support: 170 Democrats and 49 Republicans voted in favor of the bill. Federal tax dollars will no longer be wasted arresting seriously ill medical marijuana patients

The D.C. Department of Health selected six companies that will soon be eligible to cultivate medical marijuana in the District. The announcement was made on Friday, after a lengthy selection process reviewed by a six-member panel and input from Advisory Neighborhood Commission members.
